The Germania Erste Karneval Gesellschaft continue the 6th Season of fun and foolishness by hosting the 2020 Karneval Maskenball on Saturday, February 2, 2020, beginning at 7:11 pm at the Radisson Hotel Covington (668 West 5th Street, Covington.)
Karneval in Germany began in the 16th century to allow commoners to mock the monarchy and politicians without fear of retribution, and it is celebrated all around the world during the season before Lent. Germania Society celebrates the festivities Rheinische (western part of Germany) style, which is known for its parades and costume balls. The Rheinische Karneval season begins at 11:11 am on November 11 with the crowning of the Karneval Prinz and the awakening of the Karneval clown, Hoppeditz.
Admission to the event is $20 per person, and reservations can be made by contacting Maria Geers at 513-508-7794 or mggeers@aol.com. Entertainment will be provided by a local German band, along with performances by the Germania Prinzengarde, visiting Prinzengarde/Tanzmariechen and the famous Germania Männerballet. Food and beverages will be available for purchase as well as chances for raffles. Hotel reservations must be made by January 19, 2020 by calling the Radisson at 859-491-1200 and letting them know that you want to make a BLOCK reservation for Karneval Germania to get the discount rate.
